Dr-DE-Waele-ESICM-Critical-care-EgyptProfessor Jan De Waele is a surgery-trained intensivist at the department of Intensive Care Medicine of the Ghent University Hospital, full Professor at GhentUniversity and Senior Clinical Investigator at the Flanders Research Foundation. His research activities focus onoptimizing antibiotic therapy in severely ill infected patients, with specific interest in PK/PD, therapeutic drug monitoring of antibiotics as well as antimicrobial stewardship. Interests also include abdominal infections, source control and sepsis management. He serves as the 2024-2026 ESICM President.

DR-Ostermann-Critical-care-Egypt-ESICMProfessor Marlies Ostermann is a consultant in critical care and nephrology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. She specializes in Intensive Care Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Nephrology. Within the ESICM, Dr. Ostermann has held multiple prominent roles, including Chair of the AKI Section and Chair of the Research Committee. She is the President-Elect of the society. Beyond ESICM, she is Director of Research at the Intensive Care Society in the UK and Co-Chair of the KDIGO (Kidney Disease:Improving Global Outcomes) AKI guideline panel.

Julia-wendon-ESICM-Critical-care-Egypt.Professor Julia Wendon is internationally recognised for her exceptional contributions to the intensive care of patients with severe liver disease. She is a full-time intensive care consultant who also trained in hepatology. Her focus of interest is critically ill liver patients (trauma, acute and acute on chronic liver failure, hepato-biliay surgery and septic liver dysfunction) and their associated organ failures. Her research has largely focused on prognostication, management of multiple organ failure and the associated immune dysfunction, focusing especially on monocytes. In addition to clinical practice, she has undertaken clinical leadership roles.
